 New Feature: [msg] tag Message #51    Replies: 0

Hi folks,

There's a new feature of our new forums: The [msg]...[/msg] tag. Use this tag to refer to other messages in the forum by their ID (message IDs are shown in the upper right-hand corner of the message). This is better than figuring out the URL and using a [url]...[/url] tag because:
  1. When the user follows the link, it opens in the same window, not a new window as with [url].
  2. If we change the web pages of the forum, your URL doesn't get out of date.
  3. When the user follows the link, the message you referred to is highlighted in the thread.
The [msg] tag looks like this:
[msg=ID]your text[/msg]
...where ID is the message ID. So for instance if you wanted to refer to Jock's reply to my original message announcing the new forums, which has the ID 2, you'd use:
[msg=2]Jock's reply[/msg]
...which looks like this in your message: Jock's reply.

This isn't actually a new feature; but there was a small bit of unwritten code (remember I said we were almost ready to deploy the forums when we decided to go for it), which I've just dashed off.

Enjoy!
