You've probably heard about the security issue found recently Oracle's Java plug-in. The good news is they've already released an update to fix it, so go get it now if your Java install hasn't already auto-updated.
In addition to fixing the flaw that was discovered, they've also changed the default security setting so that when you go to a page with a Java applet on it, it doesn't assume you want to run the applet. Instead, it puts up a big "Security Warning" box asking if you want to run the applet. That's to protect you from malicious applets hiding on websites.
The good news is that the plug-in has a list of applets you trust, and it's easy to add our applet to that list so the warning doesn't pop up every time you go into a game: Just tick the "Do not show this again for this app" checkbox on the warning dialog before clicking the Run button. More here in the help.

I have to say THANK YOU so much TJ no one takes care of us as you do. I do want to say sorry for earlier comment. I wasn't feeling good and I know that is not good enough but you are the kind of person who has a big heart. Just follow what TJ has here for us to click on with that Java issue and you will good. You need it more then just for playing PM.
Thank you so much, TJ! I just recently bought a new computer, with Windows 8, and boy(!) what a difference, it is! But, I now have THANKFULLY gotten my Java straightened out with YOUR help. You are indeed, a GOD-SEND, TJ! THANK YOU!!!
Hi TJ. I'm also having big problems getting updated. I've uninstalled the old one and installed the new one. But I still get a 'something's wrong' page on the java website, with a list of things to try. I'ved tried them all and none of them have helped.
Basically, it tells me that I still need to install the 7u10 plug-in, but when I try to do it, it fails to install every time. It then gives me a 'manual install' option, but that just takes me back to the java page to reinstall java completely, which just leads me back to the same problem plug-in problem.
I'm not sure what else to try, and I haven't been able to find out anything else on the java webpage.
If it's telling you to install "the 7u10 plug-in" then there's definitely something wrong, as that's out of date now.
Here's what I'd do:
Go to "Add/Remove Programs" (or "Uninstall a program" if you're on Windows 7) and uninstall everything that says it's a JDK, JRE, Java Development Kit, or Java Runtime.
Reboot.
Double-check in "Add/Remove Programs" / "Uninstall a program" that there is nothing there saying it's a JDK, JRE, etc.
Go to http://www.java.com and click the "Free Java Download" button and walk through that process.
Reboot when the install finishes (if it does).
If that doesn't work, there's something messed up with the computer's registry or similar and it probably needs a tech to look at it. E.g., it's not a Java problem, it's a more fundamental problem. :-(
Ok, thanks. I checked the Uninstall list a couple more times and I hadn't missed anything, but when I did a search on the C drive for java-related stuff, all kinds of stuff came up and I manually deleted as much as I could.
Unfortunately, after doing all that, I am still getting the same error, so I'm not sure what to do now.
And here's an update on my own situation. heartsvertigo suggested using the 30-day free trial of Revo Uninstall Pro to make sure all the old java stuff is really removed and gone, so I thought I'd try it out. Revo did in fact find a bunch of 'registry' items that hadn't been removed, so that combined with TJ's earlier comment that it could be something with my computer registry made me optomistic that this would solve the problem. But after Revo did its work and I reinstalled java again, I still have the same problem. So once again I am at a loss.
Taking advice from others, I tried two other programs:
1) JavaRa found 9 additional java files and removed them. But it did not solve the problem.
2) Microsoft Fixit could not find any old java stuff. When I reinstalled new java, it could not find anything wrong with it.
I started thinking it's a firefox problem, but I tried IE again and I still can't run java there either on this computer. Yet on my laptop, new java runs in firefox just fine.
So again I am at a loss. Thanks to everybody who made suggestions. Ben

As a matter of information, I thought you might like to know that I am having the same problem as asdf (Ben). I deleted all Java programs and reloaded the latest program from Java. Java says that I am now running the latest program but I still get the same error message for every game I try to play here. It only happens at this site. Quite a coincidence that Ben and I have the same possible registry problem, isn't it? The error message allows me to "play through" each time but it is something of a drag.
Since the plug in request popped up on my game page I can not play my game. I tried to download and reloaded page with no change . They should have left it alone . I was not having trouble playing prior to today.
Anyone else having problems with the update? I've installed it, restarted, etc. The problem is the security warning box pops up before EVERY game even though I've told the browsers (have tried Chrome and IE) to allow Java and have clicked the "do not show again" box.
lol kitzel. I've done everything exactly as it should be done. TJ - I've even gone so far as to completely uninstall Java, including cleaning leftover files and the registry, but I still have the same issue with IE and Chrome.

Hi did you o the update from where TJ has this (You've probably heard about the security issue found recently Oracle's Java plug-in. The good news is they've already released an update to fix it, so go GET IT NOW in the red if your Java install hasn't already auto-updated.)

I clicked on go get it and downloaded. The installed and restarted my machine - it works!
I used the link here and it tells me that I am updated . I see nothing about a fix. I searched for one and some sites are saying that it isn't fixed correctly yet, that there is still danger. I still have to click for every game.

I know this can be a pain, but did u say you clicked right where TJ has it in red GET IT HERE? It then takes you right to the Java site to do a free download, then run and it is fixed.

Just to be absolutely certain, when you say you've clicked the "do not show again" box, you mean the "Do not show this again for this app" box described in this help item? (See the bottom left of the picture.) Because both the browser and the plug-in will now have settings for this.
If that's not it, you've probably already done this, but I'd go through the same series of steps I outlined for Ben above to see if that sorts it out.
Yes, have checked the "Do not show this again for this app" box described in your link. I have completely uninstalled java, including manually deleting each and every entry from the registry. I've gone through the same steps you outlined for Ben. Unfortunately, the problem still exists.
At this point, I'm looking at reformatting (ugh) or restoring (double ugh). Let me know if you hear of any fixes.
Thanks much, Carol

Yes, I am having the same problem and it really bugs me. It's only this site, which tells me something...
Is it really a "Java Fix"?

Thanks, Some Dream. I'm still leery about putting anything back on my computer at this time. I've been playing without it, here- at Pocket_Monkey for several months now.

When you're actually running a Java applet, there should be a little Java icon in your task notification area (it looks like a small white square with some lavender squiggles on it -- actually an abstract lavender coffee cup with steam rising from it on a white background). If you right-click that and choose Properties, it's bound to say on one of the tabs in the resulting dialog box.
Or you can go to "Add/Remove Programs" (Windows XP and earlier) / "Uninstall a Program" (Windows 7 or later) and find the entry on the list that says it's a Java Runtime, Java Development Kit, JRE, or JDK. Sometimes there may be more than one (don't get me started!) and if there are, I would remove all of them and install fresh.
I downloaded it but it didn't work. I'm wondering if maybe I should disable Firefox. Tired of all the problems.

It's not just with firefox, my big pc is in the shop not because of this Java. But I am on a laptop now using Internet Explorer and can't get into my games now, I was able to with my big PC after the fix TJ put up. There is a lot on line about this Java issue.

Talk about being odd, I did what TJ said about add and remove and the little tea cup is not in my task bar but I am now able to play again. I install again and hit the run before game and I am now playing again.
I have had no problem Java does its own updates and so far everything I am doing has no issues, I switch between IE-FireFox and Chrome , they are all working fine.

Did you check and see how much comes up when you do a search? I wish Java would fix the issues because it is not just Firefox users having the problem.
can't play my game after downloading plug in from java
Yesterday everything was fine, today java said add plug in , have done that twice reloaded still can't play. Nothing wrong with my computer just got back from my Tech and he said its squeaky clean, no bugs , no maleware, nothing there that shouldn't be . I should never been asked to download plug in. It was working fine for me the way it was . My only option is to stop playing if I can't see the game boards

I know I am back to having the same problem, also when I do click on the plug to see the game there is something being downloaded when doing it. I also have had 3 different techs look at this and all 3 say I am good and my pc is good. I really enjoyed playing here as I have for many years. Please TJ don't get mad but this is the only site I am having problems with when it comes to the Java and as you can see I am not the only one. It is not just FireFox players. On my laptop I was using IE and the same problem at times. :O(((
ALthough i down load recent addition, at first i did get the java message, but know i get the page that ask s me if i wish to conrtinuee, Once check before each game it all goes well. It the same on another site that users Java, But not a problem for me to make the extra click i use firefox, and sometimes IE
its not offering me the option to continue , it still has the box that says add plug in

What is sad is that this seems to be the only site that we are all having problems with when it comes to the Java. Yes there are a lot more then just us who are not able to play these games but won't bother to post here. TJ seems to think and I know he means good that his site is ok we are all wrong. So many games I can't play, so there will be so many ppl real happy about that and their unfair win.
Most likely, other sites you use either aren't using Java in the browser at all (it's relatively rare now -- for the reasons we're all dealing with!), or aren't using Java applets in the same way.
You seem to think I'm unaware of what a pain Java in the browser is, or that I don't care. That's not remotely the case. I would dearly love to spend the time necessary to finish rewriting the games so we don't need Java at all. I just haven't been able to shake the time free to do that.
As for your insinuation that there's something wrong with the Pocket-Monkey applet: There isn't, and if you're not a professional software engineer, I'd appreciate it if you would stop repeating things like that (this is not the first time). The problem is the Java plug-in, its security issues, and the response from browser manufacturers trying to keep their users secure online. Nothing whatsoever to do with Pocket-Monkey except that we rely on the plug-in to run our applet. For now. The sooner I can drop-kick our reliance on that, the happier I'll be. -- T.J. So many games I can't play, so there will be so many ppl real happy about that and their unfair win.
Moreover, there's never any reason to lose even a single game because of Java issues. I've pointed out how to play your games without Java repeatedly, linking to the relevant information from about a dozen different posts (and of course, it's in the help).
Jave just installed update #13 now I am getting a popup saying Pocket-Monkey wants to run an attachment. What is this ? Everything was working fine and now I can't get on games.

Not an attachment but an "application", further described as "app".
Is there anything on the Help page about this?

As somedream said, I think it probably says "application" rather than "attachment". If so, there should be a "Do not show this again for this app" checkbox you can tick to prevent the message recurring every time, more in the help. -- T.J. Crowder First Primate Pocket-Monkey.com
