Mine seems to be running okay except my Java is all messed up again on Firefox since about the 28th. There is was running so well for about a week. Getting the grey box message again. I have downloaded all the updates still nothing works. I guess it's back to IE again.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble.

It's nothing at this end. We monitor the site using a service that tests all the layers (web server, application server, database server) every minute, from multiple locations around the world. The average page response time is 250ms (a quarter of a second), with the longest response time in the last 30 days being 338ms (just over a third of a second).

This suggests a routing problem between your ISP and the data centre where Pocket-Monkey's servers are, which (if it continues, they tend to find and fix these things) may be worth discussing with them.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

You never replied to my question the last time you posted this:
Have you actually ticked the little checkbox? You've never mentioned it.

I checked the box ,checked for Java updates,Java installs every few days a new update, that worked for 2 days and now back to grey box with every move. Still says security warning.

Hi,

There are two stages to this (neither of which is anything to do with Pocket-Monkey): 1. The browser asking your permission to run the Java plug-in, and 2. The Java plug-in asking your permission to run our applet.

The grey box is your browser asking permission to run the Java plug-in. There should be an "always run" option which isn't necessarily shown in the box (in Chrome it's no where near it, it's up at the top of the browser window, in a banner with your other choices of "Run this time" and "Don't run" or something like that). Where that is varies according to what browser you're using. (If you're not using the latest Java plug-in, the browser may make it fairly difficult to say "always run" since the whole point is that an out-of-date plug-in is a security problem. The solution to that is to keep the plug-in up-to-date.)

The box I'm talking about is the other one, the one described and pictured in our help, which is the Java plug-in asking your permission to run our applet. It does have a checkbox for always allowing the applet to run actually on the box.

Hope that helps,

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that. That means the Java plug-in is not working correctly on your computer. If it were working correctly, ticking the "Do not show this again for this app" box once would work for you, as it does for me and most other people.

It's hugely frustrating that Pocket-Monkey currently mostly relies on a Java applet, and the people behind the Java plug-in have messed it up so badly for so long, and especially badly lately. At least if it were a browser problem, we could point you at other browsers. Sadly, I don't think there's currently a consumer-viable alternative to Oracle's Java plug-in.

Unfortunately, it's not something we can fix for you, because the Java plug-in isn't ours. It's Oracle's. They may offer support via java.com or their main Java page on oracle.com.

Good luck with it,

I have installed uninstalled reinstalled, I have Java up to date and it works on every other site I play or go to. No clue why the problem shows up here but guess I will just have to click the do not show box after every game, maybe one day it will get straight.

What makes you think any other site you're using uses Java applets?

I use several math sites and Java loads for them but slowly also one pic file uses Java applets.I have been reading up on it and it seems to be an out dated slow tool, so I am rethinking sites that use this. Researching the Java applets has been informative if nothing else and pointed out the many flaws with it.

Well, I'll just say again that there's nothing remotely unusual about our applet.

Re Java applets, I wouldn't say they're "outdated," but there are better (in my view) alternatives available now than there were when Pocket-Monkey started, and as I've said several times, the sooner I can get us off using a Java applet, the happier I'll be. They've managed to really screw it up in terms of normal, non-techie people being able to use it without hassle (and that's been going on for years now).

Try OpenDNS.
The home version...it`s free
